Stories 2018

Beginning in January, I tried my hand at writing historical fiction rooted in satire, a five-part story titled “The Election.” The motivation was to channel the disgust with the change of our local government from Council/Manager to Mayor/Council led by one person who nearly four years earlier established the Facebook group: “Citizens for Responsible Government.” A popular name for conservative groups but a more descriptive name would be: “Let’s Work Each Other-up Complaining About Changes to Our Small Town That We Don’t Want to Understand and Find Someone to Blame.” Multiplying the disgust was the lack of outrage over the hateful treatment of Karen as a candidate for the ‘strong’ mayor position. Before writing the fictional story I vented on Medium with this essay: “A Top Ten Coolest Small Town in America.”
